for getting mobloguk better known in Europe? It seems Textamerica, buzznet and fotolog have pretty much tied up the US and South America, and Im sure there is a Pacific Rim counterpart doing the same...
I've got SOME ideas, but anyone who has any drop em in!

Re: anyone have any ideas
Thu, March 4, 2004 - 9:21 AMBad ideas follow: sticker campaign. Downloadable DIY advertising, get users who want to to spread the word in their locale. Also rather liked buzznet's idea of getting a popstar or other notable to moblog their tour or something, I'm sure there's some scruffy chancers out there who would be up for it. Most of the other ideas just revolve around ways of making Moblg an even cooler place to be than it is - the most sensible idea I have can best be described as distributed flashmobbing - inspired by the Night of Eyes - eg, give people a subject to photograph on day x, etc etc. Of course the best way to do this would be eventually to have SMS messages informing people of what their latest task is, which isn't particularly doable right now, but I'm guessing that there are enough people sitting in front of their computer all day at the moment for tasks to be stuck on the front page or something. Actually that's a fucking good idea though I do say so myself, lots of potential. On Hype we used to have a story telling thread, kind of online consequences. We could do something similar - the words online global photo-love story have just come into my mind, I'm writing them down and taking a step back before anything untoward happens...
Anyhoo...Yeah... We obviously don't have the marketing funds of the competition, so at the moment we've got to work on building word-of-mouth buzz, which we do by being pure class (jobs a goodun) and doing really cool things that the others don't. Anyway, brain stop NOW. -

Re: anyone have any ideas
Thu, March 4, 2004 - 11:44 PMAlmost all good ideas, and exactly the ones I had!!! Well, we're going to start by having a page on tmoblog saying "someone bluejacqued you?" and a page about how you can do it , to spread moblog! The pop star thing yeah, basically, we need to cast our nets to our mates basically - its like when your trying to raise money for a project, call everyone you know and ask them if they know anyone with money. ;)
Call everyone you know and ask thwem if they know any famous people. Then buy them a camera phone, famous people dont pay for things, we all know that.
The sms side is simpler than we think - And cheaper, Ive been talming to aggregatoers and marketing agencies for an age and this is a pretty simple thing to do as you just piggyback someone elses provision when theyre not using it.
Of course we can always talk to carphone warehouse ;)

Re: anyone have any ideas
Fri, March 5, 2004 - 3:12 AMOK, well I've just sent an email to the people I know who run a fanzine and promote gigs around town - they miiiiight be able to help. It also hit me that we have the dedbeat festival right on the doorstep, kinda, of Moblog HQ. www.dedbeat.net/ - Seems to me some kind of collaboration could be cool - I don't know how these things are arranged and I don't want to contact them meself because I'd probably just call them all fuckers by accident. Ideas, possibly. -

Re: anyone have any ideas
Sun, March 7, 2004 - 11:53 AMGot email back, and staggeringly enough the best advice about contacting possible artists was to, er, email them yourselves... Well, duh, I guess. Go me for not making the logical connection. He also made the very good point that of the musicians they've met, they've noticed a lot of pony non-mobloggable phones, which is obviously going to impact on how many people say yes. -

Re: anyone have any ideas
Mon, March 8, 2004 - 5:01 AMah - I was thinking about it sort of from the idea that the event itself would benefit from it, as opposed to artists themselves moblogging their part of the event - either works really well I think. Its too late for any bands to put a PR machine in the works to do this, but the idea is well sound - I think also this is a conversation we should have off list from now on...? -

Wed, March 10, 2004 - 4:47 AMGood thinking, well, you should be able to find my email address easily enough, if not then you can ask Mat. I'm without proper work at least until the 22nd, so if you need anything done then drop me a line.

Re: anyone have any ideas
Fri, June 18, 2004 - 4:27 AMO.k, digging up an old (er) post but the reason that I started off with Fotolog, even though I knew about mobloguk was because of the 'UK'. Will non-UK europeans be as uncomfortable as I am? (an Australian with a UK passport.) -

Re: anyone have any ideas
Mon, June 21, 2004 - 3:12 AMWe decided to go with MoblogUK as although we have (and want) an international audience, UK means a lot of things by association, it means, sarcasm, it means humour, it means silliness, it also lends, somehow, a quota of cool somehow. -

Now you've done it. The floodgates are open, bring on the dissenting crowds.
Don't worry Alfie, if this gets nasty, I'll...run for help.
